Valley Solar — Western Massachusetts Valley Solar is expanding into HVAC, and we’re looking for an entrepreneurial leader to build this new division from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity for a motivated HVAC professional to design, launch, and grow a full-service HVAC operation within an established and respected solar energy company. The HVAC Division Leader will be responsible for strategy, licensing, operations, hiring, financial performance, quality standards, and customer experience. This role requires someone who is both visionary and hands-on, capable of building systems while also supervising early field operations to ensure workmanship excellence. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Business Build-Out
Develop the HVAC division business plan, including service offerings, pricing, equipment selection, and organizational structure.
Build the division from scratch, including licensing, staffing, vendor partnerships, and operational processes.
Integrate HVAC sales and service into Valley Solar’s existing residential customer base and new solar projects.
Manage division P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to ownership.
Establish KPIs and drive the division to achieve revenue, gross margin, and customer satisfaction targets.
Operations & Technical Oversight
Oversee residential HVAC installations, heat pumps, ductless systems, and service operations.
Ensure all work meets industry best practices, manufacturer requirements, and code compliance.
Implement quality control, safety protocols, job documentation, and workflow systems.
Coordinate with internal teams (sales, administration, and project management) to deliver smooth customer experiences.
Select and manage relationships with equipment manufacturers, distributors, subcontractors, and other partners.
Team Building & Leadership
Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing team of HVAC technicians, installers, and service personnel.
Provide training, mentorship, and performance oversight.
Create a culture of safety, craftsmanship, professionalism, and customer-first service.
Establish clear job roles, career paths, and accountability systems.
Sales & Marketing Integration
Collaborate with ownership and marketing to build customer acquisition strategies.
Support Valley Solar sales staff with HVAC expertise during customer consultations.
Develop maintenance plans and service agreements to drive recurring revenue.
Represent the HVAC division in customer-facing discussions, building trust and confidence.
Qualifications Required
5+ years in a leadership role in HVAC (operations manager, lead technician, project manager, service manager, or company owner).
Strong understanding of residential HVAC installations and service practices.
Experience hiring, training, and leading field teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, vendors, and customer relationships.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to thrive in a startup-style environment with high autonomy.
Preferred
Experience building or launching a new division or business.
Technical licensing or refrigerant handling certification (EPA 608).
Experience with heat pumps, ductless systems, electrification, or energy efficiency programs.
Familiarity with Massachusetts HVAC code and permitting requirements.
Experience integrating HVAC with solar or other clean energy offerings.
