Lead Estimator

General Description:
New England Waterproofing is seeking a results-driven and detailed-oriented Lead Estimator in our commercial waterproofing department. This individual will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for waterproofing projects, managing a team of estimators, and utilizing estimating software to streamline workflows. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial and/or residential waterproofing, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Skills & Abilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of estimators to ensure timely and accurate project bids.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for waterproofing projects including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
  • Review and interpret project related specifications to determine appropriate products and accessories to bid.
  • Knowledge of production rates and how they vary by job type.
  • Knowledge of material costs and variations caused by time constraints.
  • Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects.
  • Understand specific and industry-related construction specifications.
  • Develop and understand job specific comprehensive Scopes of Work.
  • Review and validate team estimates for accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee bid strategy and ensure alignment with company goals and margins.
  • Ability to foster and promote customer relations.
  • Has the ability to review all project documents thoroughly to determine the scope of work and items required to compile an estimate, and to ensure the documents accurately reflect agreements made with the Client, Architect and Engineer.
  • Coordinate with project managers, sales, and operations teams to ensure a smooth handoff after project award.
  • Track bid results and performance metrics to improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Knowledge of estimating and project management software.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and methods relevant to waterproofing.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) for Construction Science, Engineering or related field of study.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; specifically, Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency with reading construction plans, specifications, and vendor product data information.
  • Familiarity with construction project delivery methods and practices.
  • 3–5 years of experience in estimating, preferably with team leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of waterproofing systems and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
